FAQ

What is the Cluny School Parents' Club?

The Parents' Club goal is to support the administration, faculty and parents in coordinating programs and services which enhance the quality of our school. Everything the club does translates into supporting our children.

The Parents' Club cannot exist without your volunteer support. There are a number of times throughout the year that it calls on you to give of your time and talents. The only mandatory service is the Cluny Country Fair in September.

Every parent or guardian of a Cluny student is a member of the Parents' Club and as such is welcomed and encouraged to attend Parents' Club meetings and functions.

What is the procedure for picking up and dropping off our children?

Car Riders enter and exit the school near the front office. Only cars will be allowed in the parking lot adjacent to the school. Cars will enter at the south gate and proceed around to the front of the school in a single lane. Four or five cars will drive into the loading zone area and students will be dropped off within the zone. Teachers will escort students to the building.

At dismissal, students will be escorted to their cars that are within the loading zone. Teachers will deliver the children to the cars. Parents/guardians should not exit the car in the loading area and come towards the office to pick up children.

Buses will drop-off and pick-up students from the back parking lot. Teachers will escort students to the sidewalk and monitor them from the bus to the school doors.

The drop-off/pick-up areas are designated as NO CELL PHONE zones to limit distractions. These procedures are designed for SAFETY, not convenience, and we ask for your understanding and patience.

What is the proper uniform?

Students are expected to come to school in complete uniform. During September and May, students may opt for navy dress walking shorts with belt, white polo shirt and white crew socks. Otherwise, traditional or winter uniform must be worn. Our uniform company is Donnelly's (1-800-498-0045). We also have a used uniform closet where uniforms can be purchased for one-third the price or an even exchange.

What is the school's means of communication?

Every Monday a Family Envelope is sent home with the youngest child. This is our way of keeping the lines of communication open. Therefore, it is very important that the contents of the envelope are carefully reviewed, and returned as necessary to the classroom with your child the next morning. The school also uses EDLINE; an online information sharing site.

Where can I find detailed information about school policies?

Detailed school policy information is available in our Parent/Student Handbook. All families may pick up a Parent/Student Handbook at the main office.

How can I find out what bus my child should be taking?

If you have any bus related questions, please contact the bus company directly: Newport (401-847-7549), Middletown (401-848-7990), and Portsmouth (401-683-5130). Beginning April 1, 2010 the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) is requesting that all families request transportation through the statewide website or if you do not have access to the internet, call the statewide office at 401-222-5024.

Who should I talk to if I have a fundraising idea?

All fundraising activities must be coordinated through the Development Office (401-847-2850). In order to coordinate our fundraising activities within our generous community, no soliciting should be done on behalf of Cluny School without prior approval.
