Whether one is talking to a recent graduate, a longtime alumnus, or even someone from the Newport community, one is likely to hear the same refrain, “I’ve always loved Cluny.” What makes Cluny special to so many is not just its beautiful campus, rich in Newport history, tucked in the picturesque Ocean Drive Historic District but also its almost 60-year commitment to providing a warm and nurturing environment where each child can learn and grow. Following the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, our School is staffed with people whose goal is to help the children in their care to see themselves as valued and worthy of respect.
Our approach to learning flows from the recognition that learning is ongoing; the translation of facts into wisdom is a lifelong process and should be a labor of love. Consequently, at Cluny, we seek to instill in our students a love of learning that will serve them throughout their lives.
Finally, we recognize that while education may be a serious business, it need not be a somber one. At Cluny, humor, laughter, and fun are not considered antithetical to a learning environment but, rather, necessary for its success. Whether in the classroom, in formal sports and activities or in spontaneous camaraderie, the Cluny School strives to be a playful, joyful place where children flourish.
I encourage you to explore our website, pay us a visit or give us a call to find out more about our warm and welcoming school. We look forward to meeting you.
With every good wish,
William J. Lippe
Head of School
